Unit 74’s Leaders

Gary Cooke (he/him)

My name is Gary and I’m proud to say I am the Unit Leader for Unit 74 from West Sussex. Scouting has played a major part in my life and gave me the foundations for an exciting career in the British Army and as a teacher. It also inspired me to get outdoors, go camping and to have adventures in places like Dartmoor, The Lake District, Canada and Iceland. I am very grateful to my family and friends for supporting me on this journey, so that I can help guide this unit to what I know will be a life changing event.

John Gillespie (he/him)

Hello my name is John Gillespie, I am very proud to have been selected as a leader for the 25th jambroee in south Korea.

I have been scouting since I was young (which is far longer than I’d like to admit) I am currently  Noviomagus e.s.l in chichester district.

Outside of scouting I am a metal worker and enjoy sculpting and leather working.

I am looking forward to the many challenges the next two years ahead hold to get us all to Korea. Then meeting many people from different cultures highlighting the wonderful way in which scouting is for everyone.

Toby Robinson (he/him)

Hi, I’m Toby from Rowfant ESU in East Grinstead.  I am really excited to be an Assistant Leader with Unit 74 for the Jamboree in Korea. Ever since I attended Eidskog Jamboree in Norway as a Venture Scout, I’ve been looking for a way to help others experience the World of Scouting at a Jamboree.  I am looking forward to the journey ahead, building a team that’s ready for anything.

Sal Dartnell (she/her)

I’m Sal, District Commissioner for Horsham and I’m super excited to be part of Unit 74 for our 22 month journey to WSJ Korea ’23. Scouting has been instrumental to all of the adventures in my life and given me the skills to make the most of all of the opportunities and challenges that have come my way.

I love people, music, food and to explore having been on expeditions from the ice of the Arctic to the deserts of Namibia and Mountains of Nepal.

My academic background is in sustainability which is a key focus for the Korean Jamboree. I can’t wait to share my experience with and learn new things from everyone representing West Sussex and then from across the world when we reach Korea. Hive minds Think Big, Dream Wild and Act Together!
